May the pain you have known
and the conflict you have experienced
give you the strength to walk through life
facing each new situation with courage and optimism.

Always know that there are those
whose love and understanding will always be there,

a reassuring touch,
and a warm smile

*There was once a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the
mirror and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

“Well,” she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today,” so she did
and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw she had
only two hairs on her head.

“HMM,” she said, “I think I’ll part my hair down the middle
today,” and she did and she had a grand day.

The next morning she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw she
had only one hair left on her head.

“Well,” she said, “Today I’m going to wear my hair in a pony
tail.” So she did and it was a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that
there wasn’t a single hair on her head.

“YEAH!” she exclaimed, “I don’t have to fix my hair today!”

Remember you may not be able to control what someone says or
does or some of the situations that life throws you, but you can
sure control the way you react.

clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today.

I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or…
I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases
wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns or…

Today I can complain because I have to go to school or…
I can eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or…
I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my
mind, body, and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me.
I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be – a roommate, a neighbor, a professor, a friend, a lover, or even a complete stranger – but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way.

Sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart.

Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved straight flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to create who you are and who you become. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are sometimes the most important ones.

If someone loves you, give love back to them in whatever way you can, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.

If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and listen to what they have to say.

Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you.

You can make anything you wish of your life. Create your own life and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets.

And if you love someone tell them, for you never know what tomorrow may have in store.

Learn a lesson in life each day that you live! Today is the tomorrow you were worried about yesterday.

Once there was a man who dared God to speak.

“Burn the bush like you did for Moses, God. And I will follow.”

“Collapse the walls like you did for Joshua, God. And I will fight.”

“Still the waves like you did on Galilee, God. And I will listen.”

And so the man sat by a bush, near a wall, close to the sea and waited for God to speak.

And God heard the man, so God answered.

He sent fire, not for a bush, but for a church.

He brought down a wall, not of brick, but of sin.

He stilled a storm, not of the sea, but of the soul.

And God waited for the man to respond.

And he waited…

And he waited…

And waited.
But because the man was looking at bushes, not hearts; bricks and not lives; seas and not souls,
he decided that God had done nothing.

Finally he looked to God and asked, “Have you lost your power?”

And God looked at him and said, “Have you lost your hearing?”

They tell the story about an elderly lady who was upset because she had lost
her sense of the presence of God. She told this problem to her lady friend
who was visiting one day.

The visitor advised, “Pray to God, Brigid. Ask him to touch you, and he will
put his hand on you.”

Old Brigid began to pray right then and there when suddenly she felt a hand
on her shoulder. She cried out in joy, “he has touched me. ” Then she added,
“But, do you know, it felt just like your hand.”

Her friend said, “sure and it was my hand. What did you think God would do?
Did you think he’d stick a long arm out of heaven to touch you? He just took
the hand which was nearest and he used that.”

We are born with two eyes in front because we must not always look behind, but see what lies ahead beyond ourselves.

We are born to have two ears — one left, one right — so we can hear both sides, collect both the compliments and criticisms, to see which are right.

We are born with a brain concealed in a skull… then no matter how poor we are, we are still rich, for no one can steal what our brain contains, packing in more jewels and rings than you can think.

We are born with two eyes, two ears, but one mouth… for the mouth is a sharp weapon. It can hurt, flirt, and kill. Remember our motto: talk less, listen and see more.

We are born with only one heart… deep in our ribs it reminds us to appreciate and give love from deep within.
