Benjamin Franklin observed that when he walked into a room and a group of men laughed at him or made a snarky remark, all he would have to do is approach those men and engage in a friendly conversation about something. Sometimes, it was the weather; sometimes it was a personal compliment. It was his understanding that people who hate him only really wanted to be part of his greatness but felt outsiders. They felt left out. This jealousy turned them into haters. However, once they were given the opportunity to feel connected, included, and acknowledged,, they became fans and even friends. Benjamin Franklin became known as a master of killing hate with kindness.
