Answers in the Heart Meditation July 13

Admitting we are sex addicts is recognizing that we are suffering from much more than a bad habit we can control if we just work a little harder. To be a practicing sex addict is to be powerless and to have an unmanageable life. It is to be obsessed with sex, however we act that out. It is to lie to ourselves and others. It is to be out of touch with who we really are. And, most painfully, to be a sex addict is to be unwilling to give the addiction up.
Once we surrender to the reality of sex addiction, we can begin to surrender to the reality of recovery. We simply have to admit our powerlessness and unmanageability. We do it alone; no one can do it for us. But it is the last thing we will do alone. From now on, we will have our recovery program, the fellowship of our recovering brothers and sisters, and our Higher Power. We will never be alone again.

Though admitting powerlessness can cause me to be fearful, it can also cause me to grow. This growth is essential for my recovery.
