When someone upsets you and makes you mad, the best thing to do is not react in that moment. Rather wait, think, pause, reflect and then when you have calmed down, sort it out with them in a civilised manner.
Words can often hurt and the more angry we get the more nasty hurtful things can be said. Often hurtful words can last long after the argument is over. It can toss around in your head and play games with your thoughts. It can be very damaging.
When apologising it is best just to say sorry and agree to disagree if necessary, then move on. Sometimes over complicated apologies can make things heat up again and make things appear worse than what they really are. Keep it simple by just apologising and ending the argument there.
” Be careful with your words. Once they are said they can only be forgiven, not forgotten.”
Hussein Nishah
Right here, right now, I will take my own advice and Think, Think, Think before reacting to nasty comments or hurtful words.
When apologising for my part of an argument I will say my apologies in a simple and clear way and leave it at that. Getting the last word is not necessary and neither are prolonged apologies.
