When we cannot bear to be alone, it means we do not properly value the only companion we will have from birth to death: ourselves.
– Eda J. Le Shan
Spending quality time alone can be the most rewarding of all company we are likely to keep. A relationship with ourselves and getting to really know ourselves is vital if we are to be happy.
If we make friends with ourselves, you will never be alone – according to Maxwell Maltz. How true are those words.
Enjoying your own company means you can be honest with yourself and feel your feelings, good or bad. You can quieten your mind and allow thoughts to come to you and address them as they need sorted. Sometimes it is nice when we do not have to please someone else and instead just pander to our own needs. This is particularly true when out shopping or listening to music.
Self value can be learnt and practiced. The more we spend time in our own company, the more we are likely to enjoy it and value ourselves. No one in the world knows us quite as well as we know ourselves, especially if we practice honesty and confront our fears head on.
