Always behave like a duck——keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like crazy underneath.
Jacob Braude
People from dysfunctional homes paddle around on denial most of the time. We are expert at tucking fear under our wings. As youngsters this behavior saved our tail feathers and became an automatic response to life. The problem now is that we don’t trust anything in the pond, and don’t know in which direction to paddle. So we kick around in a small lonely circle….pretending.
Healing is to ruffle those stiff feathers, make them pliable enough to touch the soft down of vulnerability buried beneath. And in this touching, we will learn how to glide serenely and skillfully over the full expanse of our pond.
I am learning to trust and to feel. I am moving toward the clear waters of serenity.
