When lost in thought, your mind wanders off to less happy times.
That is when it is time to stop! Stop what you are doing.
Visualise loading those unproductive thoughts onto a cloud.
Watch them drift away, eventually disappear into the distance.
With enough practice and perseverance those unhappy thoughts become a distant memory.
With each practice, they get further and further apart.
Happier times are never too far away.
